Anatomy of Murder (1959) A
Otto Preminger’s “Anatomy of a Murder” was nominated for the Best Picture and other Oscars in l959. A court drama, the film was based on the l958 best seller by Robert Traver, pen name of Justice John D. Voelker, of the Michigan Supreme Court. Among other things, Anatomy contains one of the longest trial scenes in film history, over an hour, in which James Stewart’s small-town lawyer defends a white army lieutenant, accused of killing a black tavern owner for allegedly raping his wife.

The Kino DVD edition, authorized by the Selznick estate, contains the original theatrical trailer, wardrobe tests for Janet Gaynor, and a gallery of photos.
