Stockholm Film Fest 2012: Call Girl is Opening Night

Acclaimed director Mikael Marcimain’s political thriller Call Girl, based on a screenplay by Marietta von Hausswolff von Baumgarten, will open the 23rd Stockholm International Film Festival.

Call Girl will also be part of the international competition and compete for the Bronze Horse for Best Film.

Call Girl is a political an emotional thriller with a social conscience. The film depicts the changes that swept through Sweden during the 1970s where female liberation and sexual revolution went hand in hand with neutrality, nuclear power and a safe society for all. When that utopian image is threatened by scandal the men in power deems it necessary to intervene and go to great lengths to uphold it.

We are very proud to present Mikael Marcimains feature film debut Call Girl as the opening film at this year’s Stockholm International Film Festival. He is one of Sweden’s most interesting directors and reached a big audience through the acclaimed tv-productions “Graven”, “Lasermannen” and “Upp till kamp”, says Festival Director Git Scheynius.

“I am honored and happy that Call Girl will open The Stockholm International Film Festival. I have been an avid visitor since the festival started and I have also been part of the international jury. So it feels awesome and a bit nervous to compete with my first feature film. Vive le cinéma! Says director Mikael Marcimain.
