Bitter Pill: Soderbergh’s Next Thriller
Endgame Entertainment will finance Bitter Pill, the Steven Soderbergh psychological thriller formerly known as Side Effects.
Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta Jones are in negotiations to star in the movie, which only a few weeks ago was being financed by Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures.
Endgame Entertainment is in discussions with 1984 Pictures to co-finance. Endgame’s James D. Stern and Douglas E. Hansen will join the project and serve as executive producers. Scott Z. Burns wrote the script and is producing with Gregory Jacobs and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
Bitter Pill is a thriller set in the world of psychopharmacology and centers on a troubled and depressed woman (Rooney Mara) who is coping with the imminent release of her husband from jail and begins to take a new prescription drug, an act that causes unforeseen consequences.
Open Road will domestically distribute the movie, which is will shoot in April 2012 and be released in the first half of 2013.
Filmnation is handling international sales and will introduce the film to buyers at the upcoming Berlin Film Festival.
For Endgame, Pill falls in line with Endgame’s goal of making elevated commercial films that will go through their recently announced P & A fund.
