Oscar Movies: Lydia (1941) B-
In “Lydia,” produced by Alexander Korda, Merle Oberon plays the titular role, an elderly woman who gathers her former suitors to recall their affairs, only to discover that her memory is selective and tainted by nostalgia.
It turns out, Lydia spent her whole life holding out against the advances of three men in the hopes that her first love will return to her.
Julien Duvivier, in exile during WWII, remade the 1937 French film, “Ün Carnet de Bal,” from a script by Ben Hecht and Samuel Hoffenstein, based on the French scenario.
The supporting cast includes: Joseph Cotton, George Reeves, Alan Marshal, Edna May Oliver, and Sara All good.
