Amityville Horror, The (1979) C
American International
This low budget horror film, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, is made in the long tradition of the haunted house. A young couple, played by James Brolin and Margot Kidder, move their family into a mansion in Long Island, only to discover it’s dominated by ghosts of the past.
Rod Steiger gives a hammy performance as the priest who tries to help the couple get rid of the ghoulies.
Though the story has factual foundations, the movie is boring and predictable, a quickie made in the wake of the success of The Exorcists, which launched a whole cycle of cheap horror flicks.
