Belizaire the Cajun (1986) B
Set in Louisiana in the 18th century, this indie drama depicts the persecution of the Cajuns by their neighbors. Accused of various crimes, they are executed by vigilante groups without getting a trial. When one of the vigilantes is killed, Belizaire is accused.
Made on a budget of $900,000, the script was developed at the Sundance Institute and premiered at the 1986 Festival in the dramatic competition. Skouras Pictures released the film in November 1985
