I'm very interested to find out if the movie explores the true message of the book... I can't find anyone who has written a review that tells me this. Given what the third part of the actual book reveals (that the animals are a metaphor for what actually took place on the boat, things so horrific to the boy that he made up this story).. when you say the movie is "a spiritual meditation on the co-existence of humans and animals" it leads me to think that this vital message of the book isn't explored in the movie. Which would be very disappointing to me and puts me off seeing it at all... I'd love to know if the movie does in fact explore that part of the story? :)
